Merrell may not be the first choice brand in Malaysia when it comes to buying a pair of hiking boots. Yet it is a brand that we should not miss when shopping for a good pair of hiking shoes. Hiking Malaysia slipped our feet into a pair of the Merrell Moab 2 Mid GTX for a hike recently. The verdicts are:
Rating (1 lowest to 5 highest)
Overall Comfort : 5
Aesthetics : 4
Support (cushioning) : 5
Grip/Traction : 5
Ventilation : 4
The boots fulfill the promise of comfort, waterproof and excellent grip. But the boots are not as breathable as we hoped for. This could be justified with the fact that waterproof boots are usually warmer than those of non-waterproof. Unlike 4-season countries, the temperature of the all year long “summer” climax of Malaysia could be another contributor too. Nevertheless, the breathability does not become an issue when the temperature drops at night and as we hike up the hills when the temperature is cooler.
